I Heart Vinyl!!

Ok, there, I said it. Ever since I started using vinyl I just A-D-O-R-E it!! I went around the house, adding a leaf here, a word there...my hubby thought I was nuts, saying "just don't go overboard" - thinking that you CAN have too much around the house. Can you?! Can you, really?!? I think not! He better wait till we move into our new house in 3 weeks, I'll show him vinyl then!! ;) I jest, honey.

But I do love it...and as I get more used to it and using my cricut for it, I am excited by the possibilities! I have so many projects in my mind that I would love to do! Here are just a couple that I have done over the past little while. Now, bear in mind that vinyl is a new adventure for me!

I found some chalkboard adhesive at the Dollar Store - yes, the Dollar Store! - and I am going to call it vinyl. ;) I took a frame I got for $2.99 at Michael's (regular $16, which I NEVER would have paid) painted it white, distressed it, sealed it. Why seal it? Because it's a laminate frame - yes, you can paint laminate! I am not expecting this to last forever, and for $3 you can't go wrong. Ooops, a little bit more than $3 because I used the chalkboard vinyl on it! I just cut it down to size and slapped it on the frame insert (taking the glass out, of course). Now remember I said I was new at this - didn't think the screw holes would poke through...duh! So you can see those...and the vinyl...well, I had my son draw on it, and it leaves an impression, that's for sure. But something fun to have done, anyway! I can see using this vinyl on a piece of board to hang in my JK classroom come September - they'll love it, and if it's wrecked in a month - I don't care - it was $1!!

I've seen this floating around the blog world lately - all this Family 'Jones' est. in 2000...etc...I was invited to my friend's 5th Anniversary party a little while ago and thought, what a perfect opportunity!! I got a frame that was regular $13.00 at Michael's, but it was also 40% off then another 25% on top of it...not bad!

I took the glass and matting out of the frame, measured out the size on a piece of scrapbook paper that I liked, and popped that back in, the scrapbook paper acting as though it was a picture. I decided to do the vinyl on the glass, that way they could change out the paper if they liked - according to holiday, or season. I'd love to do something like this for me, too!! lol

I then cut an 'S' for their last name and the swirly thing-a-ma-bob out on the cricut in white contact paper and then I had just enough chocolate vinyl to do their family name and established date. Put the 'S' on first, then layer the chocolate vinyl over top. It's not my favourite font, but it'll do. I don't have many font cartridges for cricut, and this was before I got Sure-cuts-a-lot, so...there ya go.I think it was a nice anniversary gift! Inexpensive AND personal!! lol

The last little vinyl project I will show you is one of my very first attempts at being crafty (of late) - I bought a plain, unfinished wooden plaque from the dollar store, painted out the sides and then modpodged a piece of scrapbook paper cut to size over it. Once dry, I modpodged it again to seal it. I cut a fancy box and an 'M' (our last name) out on the cricut and put it on...last thing - I purchased two lovely brushed nickel hooks at the Home Depot for about $2.50 each. They were the cheapest ones there in brushed nickel that would do the job. Drilled some holes, attached them, and voila! It will be a great little place to hang our keys!!

Well thanks for coming along with me on this little vinyl journey. I hope you enjoyed the ride!!

  1. Hi there! what a great idea to use chalkboard contact paper - easier *and neater* than paint. I've been wanting to make the Est frames but I don't have a cri-cut... yours turned out cute : )

  3. I love all your vinyl projects! I bought some a while back, but I've only used it once or twice. I have a few big projects in mind, but I know they are going to take a day or two to finish!
